Road To Emmaus
How many times in your life do without thinking followed a path that God is with you without you noticing. Sometimes your heart tells you, but your lack of faith does not allow you to enjoy your company.
This story written by Luke in his Gospel, is an invitation to reflection. How is our faith? Do we hear the voice of God inviting us to talk to him?
It was the third day after Jesus' death. The Bible says that Jesus' two disciples were walking to Emmaus, a place situated 12 kms. Of Jerusalem. Is cited as one of the disciples of a man named Cleopas. The other passenger was probably his wife Mary, one of the women who accompanied Jesus during his crucifixion and presumably was a cousin of Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. The Bible says, and they talked together of all these things that had happened.
His state of discouragement in his conversation was due to events that occurred a few days before in the city of Jerusalem. They walked to Emmaus in total disappointment and probably intended to leave the cause that had begun three years ago with many dreams and why they left everything. They did not have an ideal to follow the death of his teacher who had seen and who had seen him die on a cross. Disillusioned back, most likely, to their place of origin.
A little later down the road, he quotes the Bible, a man approached them, but the Bible says, most eyes were holden to avoid being recognized. Jesus was interested in their conversation. He asked them talking and they were sad, the more they replied, are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who has not known the things that have happened there in these days? Jesus asked what things? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people. And what gave him the chief priests and our rulers to be condemned to death and crucified him. But we trusted that it was the one to redeem Israel, and now, besides all this, today is the third day since these things.
Perhaps this passage raises what you have ever felt in your heart. I think Jesus was disappointed, you will not have heard and think you are alone in life, no matter that Jesus come to your side looking out for you. You can have a moment of reflection. The disciples had lost faith in his master who saw and you have lost faith because you consider that you have left. But Psalm 16, 1 says, Keep me, O God, in whom I trust ... God never left you, you may, at any rate I left Think About God? Have I no longer trust him? The Lord Jesus Christ knows your every thought and every one of your gait. Keep your hope in the firm because he is faithful at all times. Those disciples, in spite of thinking of leaving because they thought that his master is dead, still cherish a hope that was not true.
The disciples said, and though we also have astonished some women among us, those that were early to the tomb and they found not the body, came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said he lives. And were some of us to the tomb and found it just as the women had said: but him they saw. Then he said to them, O fools and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not Christ to have suffered these things and then enter his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
At nightfall they reached the village of Emmaus and Jesus did as he was going further, they asked him to stay. That night Jesus was having dinner with them. The Bible says, It happened to be sitting with them at table, he took bread and blessed it, broke it and gave them. Then the eyes were opened and they recognized him again Jesus disappeared from their sight.
Jesus often speaks to your heart, just do not want to listen. The disciples showed disbelief even though they had heard that he had risen. Jesus came to him and walked with them and help them to know the truth, the promise. Only in this way could be recognized. For the Christian, born daily Emmaus hoping to cross with Jesus every day in their way. With the illusion of those who feel accompanied in life and that that company was born from a meeting of a conversation. For the disciples, the road to Emmaus was a real way for the Christian must be a personal journey, meeting with yourself and with Jesus. Every time you feel in your heart that Jesus speaks to you, do not let go and ask , "Stay with me," invite him to dinner, unfasten your heart and listen. Hit the road and walk by his side.
Once granted, they said to each other, did not our hearts burning within us while he talked on the way and when he opened to us the scriptures? That same night, when the disciples returned to Jerusalem. The Bible says that they found the eleven disciples gathered together and those who were with them saying, The Lord is risen, indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. Then they began to count the things that had happened on the road, and how he was known to break bread.
Today is a good time; Emmaus Go and find him, then go back and tell!
(Luke 24, 13-35)
