How to register a domain for your blog Tech

The first step in starting your blog tech is deciding the name, the domain name of the site. Behind every website is an IP address and thanks to the Domain Name System (DNS) you can easily add a web address like yahoo.com instead of referring to 209.131.36.159. To see this in action open the command prompt on your Windows machine by clicking Start -> Run -> cmd.exe and then type ping yahoo.com. Think about how the Internet DNS to the address book - rather than making calls with 10-digit numbers using the contact list that refers to those phone numbers for convenience.

Now that we have a basic understanding of what a domain means that it is time to decide the name for the tech blog. Web developers will argue at great length on the importance of choosing the correct domain name, but I think a good soil to start is with Google Trends. Looking at Google Trends you will be able to get a basic idea on the volume of searches for your niche. Let's face it most of us will not be able to develop a technology blog Gizmodo or Engadget, as we neither have the time to pump out dozens of articles per day to rival their volume post. In the event that you are committed to creating the next Engadget and Gizmodo will tell you that you need a team of writers, because an area that all the successful blogs agree is the importance of valuable content. Producing content for the sake of the volume of post is one of the biggest mistakes the first time bloggers do, I myself was a victim of this when I launched my blog.

So what should I call my tech blog? Well for starters take the role of someone trying to get information about your niche. What kind of content is under served? For example, if I was trying to create a technology blog focused on laptops I would start with considering my personal experience on the subject. Say for example I had a background in heavy technical support and hardware upgrades for laptops. My niche should focus on the types of laptops that have experience with which in this case is Windows-based laptops. Since my knowledge is focused on repairing and sustaining the rule I would choose the following terms: windows, laptop, repair, support, updates, Microsoft, Vista, XP, Windows 7. In these terms in Google Trends search I decide under what conditions generate the most research.

Now I have decided that the domain name there are a couple of options for recording. Since I'm an advocate of shared hosting when starting a technical blog I would like to take advantage of free domain name included in a shared hosting package from Bluehost. This is not the only option - you can register your domain name with any service that you want no matter where your blog is hosted technology. If you choose to take this road I still recommend using a centralized location rather than spreading your domains through GoDaddy, 1 & 1, or register any other domain registration sites on the Internet. Within each of the control panels of their sites I listed are the settings that can alter the domain to point your domain to your website using the DNS information from your web host. Let me explain how it works:

Let's say that you are getting a good deal for the registration of a domain on GoDaddy, but you wanted to use Bluehost for your web space. To register your domain with GoDaddy and then sign for a package of shared hosting with Bluehost. In order for the GoDaddy domain to point to your Bluehost web space you'd need to make some changes. First, in the GoDaddy control panel you would need to change the domain to point to the DNS settings Bluehost: NS1.BLUEHOST.COM and NS2.BLUEHOST.COM. Then you would need to add the domain into your Bluehost cPanel and, finally, will take up to 48 hours for DNS to update. The good news with the domain names is that you can transfer a domain registered after 60 days of creation. If you later decide that you want to keep your domain registered with the same company hosting your web space, you are free to do so without any kind of tax. For the first time Tech bloggers sense exploit the free domain included with most of the hosting packages ....
